Group urges MACC to look into two state undertakings @RameshRaoAKS

THE Penang Malay Congress wants the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate two projects implemented by the state government. Its president Rahmad Isahak said the projects had raised some suspicion on why they were implemented.

“We will be sending a letter to MACC on Thursday to request the Commission to investigate the projects,” he said at a press conference at Hotel Seri Malaysia in Bayan Baru, Penang, on Saturday.

Rahmad said the two projects were the new coupon parking system and the illegal earthworks atop Bukit Relau.

“The new coupon parking system is a burden to the public.

“Since 2009, the Penang Municipal Council did not have any plan for such a system, but had suddenly decided to implement the system this year.

“The system is outdated and the public have to spend more buying the coupons compared to when the meter parking system was still in force.

“It is daylight robbery,” he said.

He added that the council had already faced problems with the coupon parking system early this year and the introduction of the Smart Parking Gadget system in May, would not be much of a help.

Rahmad said the council should also reveal whether the selection of the contractor for the system was transparent and if the contractor was suitable to carry out the job.

“The congress also wants to know how the illegal works on the hill went on all this while, and it was only after sometime that the state took action,” he said, adding that there were still illegal activities being carried out on the hill.

Also present was Mind and Social Concern Organisation president Ramesh Rao.
